The San Diego Beach Birthday Party of Today - Let's Keep our Right to Have It!Think of the best birthday party you've ever had. Go ahead, think WAY back to the times of superhero themes, pin the tail on the donkey, candy filled gift bags and elaborate birthday cakes with your name right next to a colorful picture drawn in icing of your favorite past time. Remember sitting at the head of the table with your hat rubber banded to your head and blowing out the candles as fast as you could so you could start opening your presents? Ahh, now THAT was a party, and it seemed like life could never get better…But somehow it did! Now that we've grown up (a little, at least!) we still love birthday parties, and not all that much has really changed. We still love to get together with our family and friends and let loose. We love to celebrate life and another year of walking around this great green earth. Sure, we may have traded in our GI Joe's and Barbie's for more, well, extravagant toys and gifts, and maybe our colorful birthday cake has even turned into a colorful birthday low fat, carb-counting diabetic dessert, but we still love to celebrate our special day with a party. The fruit punch drink boxes we once enjoyed may have even experienced the addition of some adult beverages! Here in San Diego, we have the wonderful opportunity to celebrate our birthday (or any other kind, for that matter) parties in the soft sand and warm surf of San Diego's beautiful beaches. Right now, we can get together a group of friends and sit around a bonfire, drinking beers, swapping stories, and eating anything we want (yes, we can even get a New York cheesecake if we want to these days). Beach parties have been around for generations, and have become a permanent part of our very culture. Over the years, hanging out at the beach has become synonymous with rock and roll, surfer dudes, and bikini clad dudettes, and the beaches have always been a place to relax, unwind, and have a good time. So what more perfect combination could we find to celebrate our turning one year older than a beach birthday party? A good themed beach party can start well before you start unloading coolers from cars and the birthday cake delivery guy shows up…planning can be just as much fun. We've heard of some pretty creative pre-party activities, including the rental of a limousine to pick up all the attendees and remove any parking headaches, invitations being pasted to the bottoms of new pairs of flip flops and even pre-party shopping sprees at a discount party center! An afternoon beach party can only be experienced, not described. But once the sun sets into the horizon and darkness falls, the fun can continue right on into the night. Having a bonfire can be a great way to enjoy the beach after dark, and a warm, inviting fire can keep the cool ocean breezes from ending a great night. Don't forget to bring extra blankets! These days, a good beach birthday party is still as much a possibility for us here in San Diego as it was for generations before us. Let's make sure that we keep this opportunity alive for the generations to come! |
